Dr. George Bovis, neurosurgeon in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, understands how overwhelming a brain tumor diagnosis can be. He realizes that although the number of people diagnosed with a brain tumor is small, the impact on the patient and family’s physical, emotional, and social well-being is enormous.
Dr. Bovis believes that a brain tumor is unlike any other disease. That is why he has dedicated his professional career and practice to helping patients with brain tumors. Because of this focus, Dr. Bovis cares for a large number of patients battling similar circumstances and faced with great challenges. He has a unique appreciation for the support they need and the teamwork required, between patient, family and physician, to not only treat, but also to provide hope.
Dr. Bovis offers advanced technologies for battling brain tumors. His goal is to aggressively treat the tumor without damaging the healthy brain tissue that surrounds the tumor. In many cases, this goal is achieved using Gamma Knife radiosurgery, a non-invasive, yet highly precise and effective approach, to obliterating a brain tumor or other brain lesions. In other circumstances, minimally-invasive surgery is facilitated by highly sophisticated intraoperative MRI technology, and navigation software. Together, these tools provide the most direct and safest route to the tumor. This technology allows Dr. Bovis to aggressively remove the tumor, without impairing the healthy tissue in critical areas of the brain.
Dr. Bovis performs surgery to remove brain tumors at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Alexian Brothers Medical Center. He also welcomes questions about brain tumors. Prospective patients are welcome to call (847) 698-1088 to schedule an appointment.
