George K. Bovis, MD is a board-certified neurosurgeon who specializes in the treatment of brain tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, aneurysms and AVMs. He utilizes a comprehensive approach to treating his patients, doing absolutely everything he can to identify and eliminate the underlying cause of symptoms or the risk of future harm. Dr. Bovis is recognized as a national leader in the use of Gamma Knife radiosurgery to treat inoperable or inaccessible brain tumors or lesions, as well as patients who would be unable to tolerate open surgery because of advanced age or other complicating conditions. Because of his experience and national standing, Dr. Bovis was appointed Medical Director for the Illinois Gamma Knife Center at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
Passionate about the pursuit of optimal treatments for brain metastases, pituitary tumors, acoustic neuromas, and glioblastomas, Dr. Bovis frequently incorporates both surgical and Gamma Knife radiosurgery in a staged approach. He tailors the exact timing, dosage and staging of treatments to the individual patient.
Dr. Bovis started his distinguished medical training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He then received his neurosurgical training at the world renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he completed six years of intensive training. Dr. Bovis then pursued more advanced training by completing a fellowship program in cerebrovascular neurosurgery at the Mayfield Clinic in Cincinnati, Ohio, one of the finest neurosurgical training programs in the country.
As Dr. Bovis was born and raised in Arlington Heights, he is highly committed to serving patients in the Chicago area. He sees patients in his office in Park Ridge at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and treats patients using the Gamma Knife at the Illinois Gamma Knife Center in Elk Grove Village at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Dr. Bovis is on staff and performs surgery at Lutheran General Hospital and Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
Dr. Bovis is also active in many Hellenic civic and medical organizations, building upon his Greek heritage.
